Dear God, please help us to avoid the temptation of seeking to convert others for our own gain. May we never lead others astray or cause them to become more lost than they were before. Instead, may we always strive to lead others towards you with love and humility. Amen.
Verse: Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you travel around by sea and land to make one proselyte; and when he becomes one, you make him twice as much a son of Gehenna as yourselves.
Matthew 23:15
This is a Command. The verse is a warning or rebuke to the scribes and Pharisees, telling them that their actions are leading people astray and causing them to become even more condemned than the religious leaders themselves. There is no direct command or promise given to the reader.
