Prayer based on Matthew 23:16. Themes: hypocrisy, materialism

Dear Lord, we come before you humbly and ask for your guidance and wisdom. We pray that you open our eyes to see the truth and not be led astray by blind guides. Help us to understand that our words hold weight and that we should not make oaths lightly. May we always honor our commitments and not prioritize material possessions over our integrity. We ask for your forgiveness for any times we have made false promises or taken oaths lightly. Please help us to be people of our word and to always speak truthfully. In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen.

Verse: “Woe to you, you blind guides, who say, ‘ Whoever swears by the temple, it is nothing; but whoever swears by the gold of the temple, he is obligated.’
Matthew 23:16

This is a Command. The verse is a rebuke to the blind guides who prioritize the value of gold over the temple and teaches the reader not to make false oaths or prioritize material possessions over spiritual values.
