Dear Lord, we come before you humbly and ask for forgiveness for any hypocrisy in our lives. We pray that we may not only honor the prophets and the righteous, but also follow in their footsteps. Help us to build up your kingdom and not just decorate our own lives with empty gestures. May we be true followers of your word and not just outwardly religious. We ask for your guidance and strength to live a life that is pleasing to you. Amen.

Matthew 23:29
This is a Command. The verse is a warning or rebuke to the scribes and Pharisees for their hypocrisy in honoring the prophets and righteous individuals of the past while rejecting and persecuting the ones in their midst. There is no direct command or promise given to the reader.
