Dear God, help me to understand the true meaning behind this verse. May I not place my trust in material possessions or external symbols, but instead focus on the intentions and actions behind my words. Guide me to always speak truthfully and with integrity, and to honor my commitments and obligations. May my words and actions always reflect your love and grace. Amen.

Verse: And, ‘ Whoever swears by the altar, it is nothing; but whoever swears by the gift that is on it, he is obligated?’
Matthew 23:18

This is a Command. The verse is instructing the reader not to swear by the gift on the altar, but rather to swear by the altar itself.
