Praying from Matthew 8:21 relating to Obedience, Priorities, Death

Dear Lord,

As one of your disciples, I come before you with a heavy heart. I ask for your guidance and strength as I face the difficult task of burying my father. I know that you are the source of all comfort and peace, and I trust in your love and mercy to see me through this trying time.

Please grant me the wisdom to make the right decisions and the courage to face the challenges ahead. Help me to honor my father’s memory and to find solace in the knowledge that he is now with you in heaven.

Lord, I pray that you will bless and protect me and my family as we mourn our loss. May your grace and mercy be with us always, and may we find comfort in your loving embrace.

Thank you for hearing my prayer, Lord. I trust in your goodness and your unfailing love.

Amen.

Verse: Another of his disciples said to him, “Lord, allow me first to go and bury my father.”
Matthew 8:21

This is a Command. The disciple is asking for permission to bury his father before following Jesus. However, Jesus responds with a command to “follow me, and let the dead bury their own dead.” Therefore, the command is to prioritize following Jesus over other obligations, even those related to family and burial customs.
