Prayer based on Mark 8:34. Themes: Sacrifice, discipleship, self-denial.

Dear Lord,

You called the multitude to yourself with your disciples and spoke these words to them: “Whoever wants to come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow me.”

I pray that you give me the strength and courage to deny myself and follow you. Help me to take up my cross and follow you, even when it is difficult.

May I always remember that you are with me every step of the way, and that your love and grace will sustain me.

Thank you for your sacrifice on the cross, and for showing us what it truly means to follow you.

In your holy name I pray,

Amen.
