Praying from 1 Corinthians 14:5. Themes: Prophecy, Speaking in tongues, Building up the church.

Dear Lord, I pray that you would grant me the ability to speak in different languages, but even more so, I pray that you would give me the gift of prophecy. Help me to understand that those who prophesy are greater than those who speak in tongues, unless there is an interpreter present to build up the church. May my words always be used to edify and strengthen your people. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.

Verse: Now I desire to have you all speak with other languages, but even more that you would prophesy. For he is greater who prophesies than he who speaks with other languages, unless he interprets, that the assembly may be built up.
1 Corinthians 14:5

This is a Command. The verse commands the reader to speak with other languages and prophesy, with a greater emphasis on prophesying. The purpose of this is to build up the assembly.
