Dear Lord, I thank you for the promise that it is good for me to be afflicted so that I may learn your statutes. I pray that in times of affliction, I will turn to you and seek your guidance and wisdom. Help me to see the lessons you have for me in these difficult times and to grow in my understanding of your ways. May my afflictions lead me closer to you and deepen my faith in your goodness and love. Thank you for the promise that all things work together for good for those who love you and are called according to your purpose. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.

This is a Promise. The verse is stating that the affliction the speaker has experienced has ultimately led them to learn and understand God’s statutes, which is seen as a good thing.
