Prayer based on Matthew 23:5. Themes: Hypocrisy, Pride, Appearance

Dear God, please help me to do all my works with pure intentions and not for the sake of being seen by others. May I not seek recognition or praise from people, but instead, seek to please and honor you. Help me to focus on the inward transformation of my heart rather than outward appearances. May I not be like those who make their phylacteries broad and enlarge the fringes of their garments to show off their piety. Instead, may my actions and words reflect your love and grace. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.

Verse: But they do all their works to be seen by men. They make their phylacteriesbroad and enlarge the fringes of their garments,
Matthew 23:5

This is a Command. The verse is warning against performing actions solely for the purpose of being seen by others. It specifically mentions the practice of making phylacteries broad and enlarging garment fringes, which were outward displays of religious devotion. The command is to avoid performing religious acts for the sake of appearances.
