Praying from Matthew 15:6. Themes: Tradition, Commandment, Honor

Dear Lord,

We come before you today with humble hearts, seeking your guidance and wisdom. We ask that you help us to honor our parents as you have commanded us to do. May we never allow our traditions or customs to override your word and make it void.

Help us to remember that our parents are a gift from you, and that we are called to honor and respect them. May we always show them love and kindness, and may we never neglect them or treat them with disrespect.

Lord, we ask for your forgiveness for any times when we have failed to honor our parents as we should. We pray that you would help us to be better sons and daughters, and to always show them the love and respect that they deserve.

Thank you for your grace and mercy, and for the gift of our parents. May we always honor them as we honor you.

In Jesus’ name we pray,

Amen.

Verse: he shall not honor his father or mother.’ You have made the commandment of God void because of your tradition.
Matthew 15:6

This is a Command. The verse is a rebuke from Jesus to the Pharisees for disregarding the commandment to honor one’s parents in favor of their own traditions. The commandment to honor one’s parents is reiterated throughout the Bible, including in the Ten Commandments.
