Prayer based on Mark 12:28. Themes: Love, Commandments, Greatest

Dear Lord,

As we come before you today, we ask for your wisdom and guidance. Just as the scribe approached Jesus with a question, we too seek your answers and insights.

We acknowledge that you have answered us well in the past, and we trust that you will continue to do so. Help us to understand which commandment is the greatest of all, so that we may live our lives in accordance with your will.

May we always seek to love you with all our heart, soul, mind, and strength, and to love our neighbors as ourselves. May these commandments be the foundation of our lives, guiding us in all that we do.

We thank you for your grace and mercy, and for the gift of your Son, Jesus Christ. May we always seek to follow him and to live out his teachings in our daily lives.

In Jesus’ name we pray,

Amen.

Verse: One of the scribes came and heard them questioning together, and knowing that he had answered them well, asked him, “Which commandment is the greatest of all?”
Mark 12:28

This is a Command. The scribe asks Jesus which commandment is the greatest of all. Jesus responds by saying, “You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your mind, and with all your strength. This is the first and great commandment. And the second is like it: You shall love your neighbor as yourself.” (Mark 12:30-31)
