Dear Lord, as I reflect on the words of the disciples who walked with you on the road to Emmaus, I am reminded of the promise that you will ignite a burning passion within my heart as I seek to understand your word. I claim this promise today, Lord, and ask that you would open my eyes to the truth of your Scriptures. May my heart be set ablaze with a desire to know you more deeply and to follow you more closely. Thank you for the gift of your word and for the promise that you will reveal yourself to those who seek you with all their hearts. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

This is a Promise. The verse describes the disciples’ realization that their hearts were burning within them as Jesus spoke to them and opened the Scriptures. This is a promise of the transformative power of encountering Jesus and his teachings.
