Prayer based on Luke 18:22. Themes: Sacrifice, Wealth, Discipleship.

Dear Lord Jesus, as I read these words, I am reminded of the rich young ruler who came to you seeking eternal life. You told him to sell all that he had and give it to the poor, and then to follow you. Lord, I pray that you would help me to have the same kind of faith and obedience that this young man lacked. Help me to be willing to give up everything that I have in order to follow you. Help me to trust that you will provide for all of my needs, both now and in eternity. And help me to remember that true treasure is found in you alone. Thank you for your love and grace, and for the promise of eternal life that you offer to all who believe in you. In your name I pray, Amen.

Verse: When Jesus heard these things, he said to him,“You still lack one thing. Sell all that you have and distribute it to the poor. Then you will have treasure in heaven; then come, follow me.”
Luke 18:22

This is a Command. The verse commands the reader to sell all their possessions and distribute the proceeds to the poor, in order to have treasure in heaven, and then follow Jesus.
