Praying from 1 John 5:17 relating to Sin, Unrighteousness, Death

Dear Lord,

I come before you humbly, acknowledging that all unrighteousness is sin. I confess my sins to you and ask for your forgiveness and cleansing.

But I also claim the promise that there is sin not leading to death. I trust in your mercy and grace, knowing that you are a God who forgives and restores.

Help me to walk in righteousness and avoid sin, but when I do stumble, remind me of your promise and lead me back to your loving arms.

Thank you for your faithfulness and love. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.

Verse: All unrighteousness is sin, and there is sin not leading to death.
1 John 5:17

This is a Both.

The command is to avoid unrighteousness, which is sin. The promise is that there is sin that does not lead to death, implying that some sin does lead to death.
