Dear God, I am grateful for the promise that you have shown us love not because we loved you, but because you loved us first. Thank you for sending your Son as the atoning sacrifice for our sins. I claim this promise and ask that you continue to pour out your love upon me. Help me to love others as you have loved me. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Verse: In this is love, not that we loved God, but that he loved us, and sent his Son as the atoning sacrifice for our sins.
1 John 4:10

This is a Promise. The verse is stating that God loved us first and sent his Son to atone for our sins. It is not giving a command to the reader.
