Prayer based on Luke 14:9. Themes: Humility, Hospitality, Social Etiquette
Dear Lord, help me to always remember that humility is a virtue that pleases you. May I never seek to exalt myself above others, but instead, may I always be willing to take the lowest place. If I am ever invited to a gathering, may I be content with whatever seat is given to me, and may I not seek to elevate myself. And if someone else is in need of a seat, may I be quick to offer mine and make room for them. Help me to always remember that true greatness is found in serving others. Amen.
Verse: and he who invited both of you would come and tell you, ‘ Make room for this person.’ Then you would begin, with shame, to take the lowest place.
Luke 14:9
This is a Command. The verse commands the reader to not take the highest place at a banquet, but rather to take the lowest place and wait for the host to invite them to a higher place.
