Prayer based on Luke 14:12. Themes: Generosity, Hospitality, Humility.

Dear Lord,

As we gather around the table to share a meal, we pray that we may not be motivated by the desire for recognition or repayment. Help us to invite those who are in need, those who are lonely, and those who may not have anyone else to share a meal with. May our hospitality be a reflection of your love and grace, and may we seek to serve others without expecting anything in return.

In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen.

Verse: He also said to the one who had invited him,“When you make a dinner or a supper, don’t call your friends, nor your brothers, nor your kinsmen, nor rich neighbors, or perhaps they might also return the favor, and pay you back.
Luke 14:12

This is a Command. The verse commands the reader not to invite friends, family, or rich neighbors to dinner or supper in order to receive something in return.
